The runner was retrofitted following customer criticism about the Azuma hooks for cycle carriage. The negative feedback was given in a Zoom meeting organised by LNER in late 2020. The (mostly) female participants attended specifically to make the point they could no longer travel with a cycle as they could not lift their cycles onto the new hooks. LNER said, "It will cost hundreds of thousands of pounds." The company went ahead with the retrofit across all of its Azumas... without trialling it with those women. What did their shareholders make of this complete waste of money? A cycle in situ in this cupboard: #193792.
