[UPDATE: Compare the appearance of the top of the roof here with the image from 19.8.23: #196848.]

[Image taken 17.2.23] York St John University, off Lord Mayor's Walk, York. [NOTE: No street view at this location] The original Sheffield racks are on the right. On the left are two new (end 2022?) covered sets of stands. They have green roofs and are intended to promote biodiversity. (Note the cross section through tree trunks just under the roofs. These are presumably intended as bug hotels/habitats for beetles, etc.) There is not much room left for groups of people to walk together and to pass each other. People manoeuvring a cycle in and out will need to look out for people passing. Provision for longer rigs or tandems (cycles used for transporting people or goods or ridden by people with mobility or sight issues - as a stoker on a tandem, for example) will have to be thought about and space created or provided elsewhere. Such cycles also have larger turning circles plus the racks/supports/securing options need to be on level well drained all weather surfaces (as here), ideally covered (like the racks on the right) but you must not have to lift a cycle in or out - #191159, (or up or down a kerb: #186444, #184218, #183264). Other example of green roofed cycle parking (at Harlow Carr): #194216. Other measure - cycle work stand - supporting staff, students and visitors to cycle to the campus: #196873. Other image today and links: #191137.
