[Image taken 13.2.23] Waitrose, Foss Islands Road, York. Access to the cycle parking is obstructed. The gap is 140cm. However, to avoid making contact with anything let alone something you could damage you’d leave at least 25cm either side, so that’s 1m. If you have loaded panniers, a dependant or children onboard, are riding a wider cycle, are not confident, are cold, have limited or reduced dexterity, etc, etc 1m is not enough.
