[Image taken 6.2.23] St Andrewgate, York. Two cycles with flat bars and panniers (two on the left-hand cycle and one- on the right-hand machine). The cycle on the left has been reversed in. Men tend to be wider above the 'clutter line' (the space with the handlebars, the saddles, the luggage, the child seats...). Yet this 6ft male who is slim under his bulky winter jacket fills the space as he loads his pannier. If he had had a second bag on the other side of his rack, to load it he'd have pulled the cycle towards him... and needed to step back onto/into the cycle behind. 150cm is more practical and comfortable for all cycles in all contexts but particularly as here on the edge of a shopping area where people are coming to buy and will likely have oncycle luggage - fixed or removable - to carry their purchases. Context and links: #190843.
