[UPDATE: 23.12.21. The temporary - inaccurate - signage here has been removed. (And the 'footway' is open.)] [UPDATE: 21.12.21 This sign 'Footway Ahead Closed' is still in situ. And still inaccurate. I got an immediate reply from the Environment Agency: "Thank you for drawing this to our attention.
It was spotted by one of our staff on a site visit this morning and we have already instructed our contractor BAM to remove all the existing diversion signs immediately. Please accept our apologies for this omission.
We have extended our application to CYC for authorisation for footpath closure until February but as you know, we will only close access when absolutely necessary. Any closures we do need to apply in January will be intermittent and extremely short lived."]
[Image taken 21.11.21] Railway Walk/Marygate car park/Dame Judi Dench Walk, York. [NOTE: No streetview at this location. The streetview shot shows the other side of the floodwall ie where this gap leads to/from.] The sign says footway (the gap in the flood wall I have marked with a red box) closed. It's not closed. But I don't believe it meets accessibility standards despite leading to/from the level riverside, the level car park, the accessible Scarborough Bridge... Plus the increase in of the height of the wall reduces the chances of your seeing or hearing anyone approaching. But the width of the slope on the other side means passing is either difficult or not possible. See also: #176032.
