[Image taken 13.11.21] Railway Walk, Marygate car park, York. [NOTE: No streetview at this location.] The hoardings are around the compound connected with the Museum Gardens flood defence works (www.gov.uk/government/news/plans-to-improve-flood-defences-in-york-s-museum-gardens-approved). The date for completion is January 2022. The hoardings, coupled with the tree growth create problems of visibility, safe-feeling and shadows. The area is dark even on the brightest days see: #171838. The two nearest light sources are new - installed last week. But they are far, far too bright and focussed. They create overly lit areas and deep, dark stretches. Approaching from the other end of Railway Walk (from Bootham Terrace via the rail underpass, or down the steps from St Mary's) the route is unlit see: #175869 and links. The lights in the background of this image are on that half of the hoardings only. Someone from the York Flood Plan Team email address said: "The lighting on the hoardings in Marygate car park work off inbuilt photocells, which are the same as the existing lighting columns within the car park. This means they come on automatically at dusk, and switch off at dawn." But they don't. They are sometimes on during the day as here but not on after dark. Why are there no lights (why haven't there ever been) on the remainder of the hoardings in this view and round the corner: #175873? Compare these hoardings with the ones on Bridge lane, for works at the hospital: #167917. Other images today: #175851 and links
