[Image taken 3.3.21] Tanner Row, near junction with Rougier Street, York. One driver was already parked when I arrived and was not in the vehicle. Another arrived and stopped on the junction with Rougier Street and left his vehicle. The delivery driver arrived to unload while I was there. (All three vehicles had gone when I returned around an hour later.) The effect of vehicles parking here is that Tanner Row is made so narrow drivers use the contraflow advisory cycle lane (see #164849).
I was forced into the 'dogleg' by a large commercial vehicle as I cycled in the contraflow lane. I was forced to wait - no way of escaping - no drop kerb to the land to my left - while the driver forced his way through very close and very slowly. Why did he not give way? I would have been clear in a second; the two (at the time) multiple obstructions were on his side; and a person on a cycle is very vulnerable faced with a large lorry.
