Altrincham Hospital and Minor Injuries UPDATE SEPT 30 2021 Offered this comment to the Altrincham public realm consultation:- Visitor Cycle parking (in the undercover/underground parking area) at the new Altrincham hospital has been denied for spurious and bizarre H&S reasons and yet no alternative has been offered . Suggest new cycle parking near the main entrance next to the planter (ideally a smaller planter. CCTV coverage and “cyclists welcome sign. Investigate why the new hospital provided undercover visitor cycle parking which is now off limits.****ENDS*** Unit June 2020 Are Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust going to deny people on crutches or with walking stick from using the basement parking (FOR DISABLED !!) cantstandupforfallingdown.com/2020/06/22/cycling-with-crutches/ https://twitter.com/KevindotHickman/status/1275103156817575937 MAY 2020 THIS IS ADDED TO INTERACTIVE MAP twitter.com/OneTrafford/status/1263485402201174016 Altrincham Hospital. Do the NHS really believe they are encouraging active travel ? UPDATE
25/9/19 Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust have reversed there earlier statement. They are now saying that cyclists cannot use the cycle facility in the basement due to health and safety concerns (mainly the ramp and the barriers #111023 which they claim do not detect cycles ; which I can say they DO !! see #111023 ) UPDATE 19/6/19 No evidence of a signage survey and not only that a patient at Altrincham Hospital was denied access to the cycle parking facility in the basement. UPDATE May 2019 the Foundation Trust have been awarding green rewards to their employees for engaging in sustainable travel . Would the trust consider rewarding their customers by at least providing decent cycle parking ? aboutmanchester.co.uk/manchester-university-nhs-foundation-becomes-first-nhs-trust-to-launch-green-rewards/ UPDATE 16/1/19 There is to be a signage survey UPDATE There is, however, a facility in the basement, down the ramp, in the farthest corner, for cycle parking sufficient for about 10 cycles available to both staff and visitors with direct access into the hospital (stairs & lift, through security door). but there is NO SIGNAGE TO INDICATE !!!! The entrance has a large planter outside which is the perfect place for cycle parking as the pavement is wide. The planter is looked after by Friends of John Leigh Park. A bar could be attached to the planter on 2 sides to allow parking similar to St Ann's church MCR. #102025 . When attended the hospital the comment was that there is cycle parking but it's on the other side of the road requiring 2 busy roads to cross. Most cyclists will choose to park secured to the barrier. Would be much better in a location that is near to the entrance as recommended in all guidance . Signs saying cyclist welcome would be a good idea . Also walking and cycling promtion such as signs for the Bee Network - Walking and cycling local network planning (formerly known as GM Beelines Proposals) the new Bee Network branding all over www.tfgm.com/made-to-move
Feedback has been sent to www.nhs.uk/about-the-nhs-website/pages/feedback.aspx Their twitter address is @MFTnhs
Latest reports suggest that cycling and walking must be prioritised twitter.com/NICEcomms/status/1081090352184987648 This would be a good way.
NB Notice the delivery lorry parked in the ambulance bay
